Pura Vida: Costa Rica

Today is going to be a throwback to November of 2011, which seems so dreadfully long ago. I traveled to Costa Rica and fell in love with the saturated landscape, the beautiful people, and the attitude “pura vida”.

Pura Vida is a characteristic phrase of Costa Rica, meaning “pure life”, which basically means full of life. I love that. People say it to each other as a greeting and a farewell, much like “Aloha” in Hawai’i.

I’m going to traipse down memory lane and just share some photos from my time there.

Image I loved the growth that was everywhere you looked, berries and fruit and flowers. I ate fresh pineapple every day, and we picked bananas off the trees in the backyard where we stayed.

Even though I was not in the more touristy, coastal parts of the country, the landscape was breathtaking.

ImageFlowers came in colors I never knew could exist, and the patterns on leaves were intoxicating.

I love ziplining, and our canopy tour was one of my favorite parts. A million shades of luscious green that begged to be painted, even though you knew a painting could never do it justice. The bottom right photo is one I took while on the line, flying past.

I love Pura Vida, and I think everyone is a little piece of where they have been, so I like to think that some of that has stayed within me.

  1. Your site looks so different! I love the illustration on the left! Your pictures are beautiful. I’d like to go to Costa Rica. I was in Belize last summer, if Costa Rica is anything like Belize then its absolutely amazing!

    • Thank you! I have been meaning to actually personalize it forever, and then I found that site fiverr (you are talented, you should put your stuff on there!) and I had a guy do a drawing of me, which I thought was cool.

I’d love to go to Belize. I want to go everywhere!

  2. Wow – thanks for sharing these gorgeous pictures! I love the idea of Pura Vida, which reminds me of the wise man from the movie “Last Samarai,” who spoke of finding “life in every breath.” I agree that traveling somewhere changes us…we always hold these places in our hearts!
